Techniques
Guided practice and training in how to teach yoga. A balanced program giving equal weight to asana,
pranayama, meditation, kriyas and chanting.  There will be significant emphasis on use of props (straps,
blankets, blocks, etc.) and inclusion of benefits and contraindications of asanas.
Anatomy and Physiology
Anatomy and physiology of body systems and organs as well as subtle anatomy and physiology from the
Ayurvedic perspective will be included.  Anatomy presentations will range from lecture format, use of visual
aids, demonstration and use of other media.  
Philosophy and Ethics
An introduction and history of Indian philosophy and discussion of Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita and select
Upanishads. There will be a review of the yamas & niyamas, maitri karuna as the grounds of ethical
relationship, Ayurveda and Vedic worldview.  Learn to apply the scriptures to your personal practice and
daily living. Reading assignments to include a translation of the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita and various
handouts as preparation for classroom discussions.
Practicum
Students will teach to the community of fellow teachers under the guidance of Program Directors as well as
be required to teach outside of the classroom.  Teachers will complete a project demonstrating their skills
at devising a simple practice for real-life students.  Teachers interested in working with particular
populations (rehab, children, elderly, etc.) are encouraged to tailor their project toward meeting the needs of
their chosen audience.
Teaching Methodology
Learn the principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and correcting. Descriptions of teaching
styles, Sanskrit names and pronunciation, sequencing, pacing of class and how to properly give students
feedback will be addressed.
