Zo discovered yoga when she was 14, under the
guidance of Rammurti Mishra of Ananda Ashram
(New York) and Sita Frenkel, of the Divine Light
Society. Her deep and abiding enthusiasm for Indian
philosophy and practices have taken her to India
thirteen times to date. She earned her Master's degree
in Theological Studies at Harvard Divinity School with
a focus on religions of the Indian subcontinent.
She is currently a second-year doctoral student at
Vanderbilt University's Graduate Department of
Religion, with a primary focus on Indian religions and
philosophy and a minor in Women's and Gender
Studies. In between academic episodes, she has
completed a 300-hour training as a Ayurvedic Lifestyle
Counselor through the American Institute of Vedic
Studies and the Himalayan Institute's Sanskrit
intensive (level 1).
Zo earned Tennessee's first Relax and Renew trainer
certificate. She was a founding member of the
Southern Institute of Yoga Instructors and one of its
first graduates, as well as a founder of The Yoga
School. A member of Yoga Alliance since 1999, she
holds their highest credential of E-RYT (500). Zo
published her first book, "Downward Dogs and
Warriors: Wisdom Tales for Modern Yogis" with the
Himalayan Institute this past fall, and claims to be
working on the sequel in her copious spare time. She
is fascinated by yoga's transformative power, and
describes herself a "contemplative yogini wannabe."
