“No other habit can do more to transform your life and make you more like Jesus
than daily meditation on scripture.”  Rick Warren, A Purpose Driven Life

One important thing that all spiritual traditions agree on is to meditate on
scripture.  Our thoughts determine our behavior. So what we focus our minds on
will become how we see our reality and ourselves.    The Eastern traditions
define the mind as, “clear and knowing,” meaning that the mind reflects what you
expose it to. Therefore, if we wish to transform our life in a positive sustained
way, we must learn how to meditate.  Meditation is more than just “emptying your
mind of thought,” or “watching your breath,” which are some popular ideas.

There is much evidence of Christian meditation dating back to at least the fourth
century A.D.  In this course, we will look to the east for their expertise on how to
meditate. In addition to meditation, we will explore the relevance and importance
of yoga to a spiritual practice.  Over an eight week course, we will learn an
authentic lineage which has come down through the centuries.

Course Topics will include preliminaries to meditation, proper bodily posture,
five problems and eight corrections to meditation, nine stages of meditation,
eight limbs of yoga, inner and outer methods to God.
